Join us Monday, July 18th as Geetu Ambwani, Principal Data Scientist at Huffington Post, discusses how the HuffPost data team thinks about the content lifecycle in terms of content creation, consumption, and distribution.


HuffingtonPost is one of the largest news websites worldwide with more than 200 million monthly cross-platform unique users. The data team at HuffPost plays a key role in collecting this data, analyzing it, and disseminating data insights throughout the newsroom. In this talk, Geetu presents a general framework of how the team thinks about the content lifecycle. She will outline the challenges they face and will go over how data science helps address needs. She will conclude with an in-depth look at the company's fortune-teller slackbot,which uses machine learning to identify articles that are going viral.

Bio:
Geetu Ambwani is Principal Data Scientist at Huffington Post and leads a team of data scientists and engineers focussed on building data products that can optimize social sharing, engagement, presentation, and distribution of HuffPost editorial and advertising content. Prior to joining HuffPost in 2014, she held senior R&D positions at the Washington Post, Comcast, and M*Modal, where she applied natural language processing and machine learning techniques to power search, understanding, and discovery platforms in the multimedia and healthcare space. She holds an MS in Computer Science & Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an MA in International Science & Technology Policy from George Washington University.
