This workshop will first provide a high level overview of basic intellectual property law concepts. This knowledge is useful for anyone developing a start-up, launching a new digital application, or just interested in intellectual property laws as itappliesto new digital products.


The presenters will present a case study to illustrate specific copyright, patent and trademark concepts and provide practical guidance on how to address legal issues in developing the site/app, including overcoming obstacles related to monetization, content accumulation, development and distribution, collection of personal information from users, licensing and brand protection.

The panel will then discuss three common agreements developers are likely to encounter:

consulting agreements,

non-disclosure or confidentiality agreements and

license agreements.

A Q&A session will follow the presentation. Light refreshments will be provided.

About your instructors:

The presenters are all lawyers atMeister Seelig & Fein LLP.

As an Associate, Katherine Lewisconcentrates her practice areas in Information Technology, New Media, and Visual Arts. She works with technology and security firms, entertainment service providers, artists, writers, art foundations, museums and other cultural organizations and not for profit organizations.

As a Partner,Susan Schlesingerhas focused her practice on all aspects of intellectual property litigation, transactions and prosecution.As part of her prosecution counseling, she provides clients with practical guidance on brand development and protection, as well as best practices for marketing and advertising materials.


As a Partner, Barry Perlman'spractice focuses on all media and entertainment related industries including interactive entertainment, Internet, film, television, music, book publishing, fashion, industrial design, fine arts, sports and comedy. Barry was formerly Of Counsel at Fish and Richardson and was associated with several other premier entertainment law firms in New York City.





George Zalepa is an intellectual property associate who focuses on intellectual property transactions and licensing, patent prosecution, and litigation, with specialized technical experience with software and computer hardware.
