Entrepreneurs & business owners often complain that with tax rates being what they are, they feel like they're working for the government. There are ways to turn the tables. The reality is that states compete fiercely to attract & maintain local businesses. Stated in the simplest of terms, it all comes down to one word - jobs. If you can create jobs, you can become a VIP in your state. States reward job creation through business tax incentives that can be worth millions of dollars, & New York State is among the leaders in these programs. The problem is that the workings of most of these incentive programs are as transparent as mud. As a result, everyone loses. States that are willing to provide incentives to businesses that create jobs lose those jobs because business owners either don't know about these programs or don't understand how the programs actually work.
