EVENT DETAILS
Self-promotion, negotiating skills, executive presence: things women are told they should learn to compete in a man's workplace. But what happens in an all-women community? When gender becomes (finally!) the thing that you have in common with your neighbor, rather than the thing that sets you apart?

In an age after Sheryl Sandberg penned Lean In, with the proliferation of women's conferences, and the rise of panels on diversity in the workplace, women are banding together to build empowered spaces where they can collectively grow in their professional lives. How are women's professional networks playing a part in workforce, and workplace, development?

Please join us at LMHQ to hear from some of the leading women's clubs and groups attracting thousands of professional women: Audrey Gelman, The Wing; Remy Holwick, GRL CLVT (private Facebook group); Melissa Wong, The New Women Space and Anthonia Akitunde, Mater Mea. Moderated by Tracy Candido, LMHQ programming director and founder of Lady Boss.

As always, you'll be greeted with bagels and coffee and an opportunity for networking. We can't wait to see you!

This event is sponsored by Verizon.

Audrey Gelman:

Audrey Gelman is the CEO and co-founder of The Wing, a women's workspace and social club located in the Ladies Mile District of Manhattan. Before founding The Wing, Audrey was a public affairs consultant at the firm SKDKnickerbocker and worked as the Deputy Director of Communications for Comptroller Scott Stringer.

Anthonia Akitunde

Anthonia Akitunde is the founder of mater mea, a platform for Black women at the intersection of career and family. Raised in Kansas City, Missouri on a healthy diet of books and magazines, her decision to become a journalist was practically inevitable. After graduating from the University of Chicago and Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism, Anthonia moved to New York City to further her journalism career, freelancing for The New York Times, Fast Company, Fortune.com, and The Root before launching mater mea in 2012.

Melissa Wong

Melissa Wong recently co-founded New Women Space, a community event and project cultivation space for women of all experiences, with partner Sandra Hong. Melissa met Sandra through her work with Up Speak, a peer mentorship workshop series for women, designed around the belief that not only those deemed experts have wisdom to give. Her roots in hospitality and community building for creative companies like Kickstarter and SoundCloud inform her drive to bring people together in person through participatory events.

Remy Holwick

Remy Holwick is a model, photographer, and feminist activist. She is the leader of the NYC intersectional feminist group GRLCVLT. Her organization, Fuck Rape Culture, is active in the campaign to recall Aaron Persky.
