EVENT DETAILS
We are more than our past.

We hope to convene Black digital human rights defenders across the globe who want to advocate for an article addressing algorithmic bias in the forthcoming UN Declaration for the Human Rights of People of African Descent.

This is the first step in the journey to encourage cross border collaboration between civil society groups in the Global North & South. Our goal is to host Article X meetings during each PFPAD session, write papers & submit them to the forum to ensure the forthcoming declaration is future-facing.

There will be a short panel followed by Q&A & a short cocktail party.

Moderator: Thenmozhi Soundarajan

Executive Director of Equality Labs, the US's leading civil rights organization focused on caste.

The panelists will be:

Mutale Nkonde

Founder & CEO of AI for the People, an organization which seeks to increase policies to reduce algorithmic bias.

Safiya Noble

Founding Director of UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry & 2021 MacArthur Fellow for work on gender bias in online search.

Dr. Desmond Patton

Randi Schwartz University Professor & expert on how Black young people use social media.

The event schedule is as follows:

6PM - Doors open

6:20PM - Mutale offers welcome

6:30PM - 45 minute panel discussion & Q&A begins

7:15PM - Networking begins

8:00 pm - Event ends

This event is being hosted by Ford Grantee AI for the People (AFP). AFP is looking forward to welcoming funders, members of civil society & all interested parties to the first event in this series.

Location: Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice 320 E. 43rd Street NY, NY 10017.
