Talk #1Creating fluent natural language chatbot conversations
As we see the conversational UI paradigm spread & evolve we observe quite some misconceptions about their "intelligence" & the underlying technology. With a special focus on natural language chatbots (as compared to chat apps that operate by clicking buttons) the talk will explore the question of where we really find AI in chatbots & how we can achieve more fluent conversations.
Especially as NLP technologies become commoditized but dialogues remain static we must find that the key to natural conversation flow lies somewhere else. The talk will draw on concepts from linguistics & conversational analysis & compare different approaches to dialogue governance & connect them to specific challenges in chatbots. To round this all up there will be examples of how some of these conversational design challenges are solved in bots on the Mercury.ai platform.
