Building a Flutter app & unsure how to structure it as your code grows? Tried BLOC & unsure if its for you? Where should the state of your application live in a Flutter app, exactly? When dealing in a new framework without established patterns & practices, how do you make good choices? In this talk, Ill discuss several different ways to we considered building our Flutter at Splice, the tradeoffs involved, & the architecture we chose to move forward with.

Building Chat Notifications for Android & iOS, by Tim Reynolds
Building a chat system in Flutter seems simple but there are many details to get right. We will discuss in detail how to configure the server side (Firebase Cloud Messaging & Firebase Cloud Functions) & Flutter client so that real-time notifications work properly. We will provide detailed documentation on how to set up the provisioning profiles required when configuring notifications for iOS. Finally we will discuss pitfalls that may arise on both platforms -- for example not receiving notifications in the background -- & provide possible solutions for fixing them.
Tim Reynolds has worked at a variety of startups for over 10 years in NYC. He has intimate knowledge of Android native development & has worked for the past year on Flutter development building iOS and Android mobile apps. Recently he launched a digital agency at electrixsheep.com, with the main focus being web & mobile application development. Their flagship application is Variant, a news app that seeks to promote an independent mind & objectivity by contrasting articles & media on the same story, sequentially, in a single space.
Food & drink will be served, courtesy of Splice.
