Sam Altman is the co-founder & CEO of OpenAI, the AI research & deployment company behind ChatGPT & DALLE. Altman was president of the early-stage startup accelerator Y Combinator from 2014 to 2019. In 2015, he co-founded OpenAI as a nonprofit research lab with the mission to build general-purpose artificial intelligence that benefits all humanity.
Prior to founding OpenAI, Altman co-founded Loopt, an app that allowed users to share their locations, in 2005. Loopt was one of the first companies to receive funding from Y Combinator.
Altman was named one of TIME's 100 most influential people in the world & CEO of the Year in 2023, Forbes' Top Investor Under 30 in 2015, & one of Businessweek's Best Young Entrepreneurs & Technology in 2008.
