Join us for this hands-on introductory lab class & discover the foundations of modern biotechnology.Over four consecutive evenings, we'll learn about the basics of DNA science & laboratory techniques in a welcoming, hands-on environment. After learning about the history of biotechnology & the structure of DNA, we'll get in the lab. You'll also learn how some of the most significant developments & biggest legends in biotechnology have been associated with romantic get-away weekends, surfing, international rivalry, political intrigue, & almost 170,000 years of human history (!).
Course topics include: polymerase chain reaction (PCR), gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, bioinformatics, comparative genomics, DNA editing (using restriction enzymes & ligases), uploading DNA circuits (using bacterial transformation & plating techniques), synthetic biology (using modular analysis & design of DNA circuits), Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Bio, & more!
