EVENT DETAILS
Bloomberg, Cornell Tech, & Tech:NYC invite you to join us for the latest installment of the CornellTech@Bloomberg series, featuring Eva Chen, Head of Fashion Partnerships at Instagram, in conversation with Scarlet Fu of Bloomberg News.
An influencer herself who had amassed over 300,000 followers while she was Editor in Chief of Lucky magazine, Chen now works with brands & individuals across the fashion vertical to develop ways each of them can make best use of Instagram's platform, which now attracts over 300 million daily active users & 800 million monthly active users. Instagram's visual focus has always been a perfect match for fashion, & its hiring of Chen in 2015 brought a true fashion insider in-house.
Since then Instagram has served as a platform for livestreaming fashion shows, discovering the next models, stylists & designers, & liking the countless #EvaChenPose posts in which she documents her daily car ride to work in Manhattan, with her shoes & handbag of the moment. In addition to allowing fashion brands to engage directly with their fans, Instagram provides opportunities for anyone, anywhere to share their styles & creations, to build audiences and, sometimes, businesses based on the platform's reach. It's also become an instrument for instantly calling out perceived injustices, whether it's one designer ripping off another's design or the lack of diversity in casting for a runway show or ad campaign.
How does the fashion industry adjust to & leverage Instagram's and, more generally, technology's influence? How has this platform democratized access to fashion's rarified world? And how many hashtags are too many? Chen & Fu will cover these questions & more, including yours, during their wide-ranging conversation.
