This will be a free 4-hour, hands-on, bring-your-own-machine, learning lab for getting started building highly customized mapping applications using ArcGIS.
The course will follow the following three-step pattern:
DATA: (one hour) Before you can build an app, you need a map; & before you can make a map, you need data. Whether you're finding it on various data portals or collecting & editing the data yourself, learn techniques for getting the data you want to visualize & analyze into your map, especially data published on the NYC Open Data site.
DESIGN: (one hour) An effective mapping application needs a well-designed map. Learn some basic cartographic principles for making your apps intuitive & powerful to use.
DEVELOP: (two hours) If you are not a coder, you can still build custom web & native applications using templates & builders. But if you are a developer, get your hands on the ArcGIS APIs & SDKs for including mapping capabilities into apps you build.
Seating is VERY limited, so if you would like to attend, sign up soon.
We have scheduled this DevLab event to immediately precede the Transportation-themed Open Data for NYChappening later that evening. You can sign up for that here:

If you would like to attend this free hands-on learning workshop, please remember to bring-your-own-machine. Everything else will be provided for you.
