Python web developer at Coalition, a cybersecurity insurance startup. Author of https://github.com/alexbecker/dotlock, a python dependency management tool.

Description

This talk looks at why dependency management is important & hard, explains the shortcomings of using a requirements.txt file alone to track dependencies, & examines the tradeoffs of advanced dependency management tools (pipenv, dotlock) & methods (bundling).

Speaker Bio

Harrington is a software engineer, living in sunny California. He is part of the Big Data Platform team at Netflix, with the mission of making data accessible & easy to use in an efficient way. His work is mostly focused on data orchestration & event-driven architectures.

Harrington grew up in Venezuela & moved to Spain to pursue his master degree in artificial intelligence. As a hobby, he enjoys coding, tinkering with electronics & manufacturing parts for his robotic projects. He also likes spending time outdoors, hiking & enjoying nature with friends & family.

Abstract

Booleans are great to represent single states, but when it comes to multiple ones, they are far from ideal. This talk aims to explore cases where booleans are not the right solution, & how state machines may be a better approach when designing objects that describe multiple states & behaviors.
