Artist Caroline Garcia will teach the basics of chroma key technology, popularly known as green screening.

About this event
These events will take place in person at The Library for the Performing Arts.

Participants of this workshop will learn about this visual effect (VFX) commonly used in Hollywood & will test out the process using various color hues other than green. This workshop will also involve experimenting with the post-production technique of compositing, a method of layering images & video.

By the end of the class, participants will create their own time-based collage through a compound system of chroma keying & image layering. This workshop focuses on how to use video editing software iMovie & operating the Library for the Performing Arts Tech Kits' iPad, Ring Light, & Phone Tripod Stand Kit.

This workshop is a partnership between Pioneer Works, the Library for the Performing Arts, & Pioneer Works Tech Resident Alum Caroline Garcia.

Part of the Tech Kits in Action workshop series.

Date: In-person workshop on either Friday, 10/7, 10/14, or, 10/21 from 4:30-5:30pm in the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts' 3rd Floor Screening Room

Price: Free

Audience: Open to all Tech Kit users

Materials: Tech Kit (limited number of tech kits available to check out onsite)

Caroline Garcia is a culturally promiscuous, interdisciplinary artist working across performance, new media, & installation. Using found footage, archives, & artifacts, she digitally samples popular culture & colonial imagery to critically re-appropriate problematic narratives of cultural representation, further complicating them through cultural cannibalism. Caroline has presented work at New York Live Arts, The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, The Sydney Opera House, Smack Mellon, Creative Time SummitX, A.I.R. Biennale, Hesse Flatow, & Lincoln Center. She is a New York Artadia Awardee, CultureHub Tech Resident, Franklin Furnace Fund Awardee, & a Recess Session artist for 2021-22.
