The spreading of misinformation is not a new problem, but the scale & societal effects of online misinformation is quickly snowballing. The internet is built on truth, but we live in an era when facts are not influencing users, companies & individuals are falling prey to spreading misinformation, & the economic & societal repercussions of this issue can no longer be ignored.
In this talk, we explore the online misinformation crisis, how psychology is being used to spread misinformation, & how AppNexus, & other vigilant organizations are using data to combat the issue. We also explore how misinformation might reshape the use & economics of the internet.
