Join Ben Rhodes, former White House aide & close confidant to President Barack Obama-and the author of The World as It Is-as he discusses his findings from his travels around the globe in a deeply personal, beautifully observed quest for answers.
About Ben Rhodes:
Ben Rhodes is a writer, political commentator, & national security analyst. He is currently a contributor for NBC News & MSNBC; co-host of Pod Save the World; a senior advisor to former President Barack Obama; & chair of National Security Action, which he co-founded with Jake Sullivan in 2018. From 2009-2017, Ben served as a Deputy National Security Advisor to President Obama. In that capacity, he participated in all of President Obama's key decisions, & oversaw the President's national security communications, speechwriting, & public diplomacy. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller After the Fall: Being American in the World We've Made, & The World As It Is: A Memoir of the Obama White House. His work has also been published in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The New York Times, & Foreign Affairs. A native New Yorker, Ben has a B.A. from Rice University & an M.F.A from New York University.
About Yal Eisenstat:
Yal is a Future of Democracy Fellow at Berggruen Institute & a Researcher-in-Residence at Betalab, working at the intersection of tech, democracy, & policy. She focuses on what the public square & open, democratic debate look like in the digital world & how we can change the current incentives to reconcile social media's dominance of these public spaces with democratic principles. She strives to bridge the divide between government & tech, to help foster a healthier information ecosystem.
She has spent 20 years working around the globe on democracy & security issues as a CIA officer, a White House advisor, the Global Head of Elections Integrity Operations for political advertising at Facebook, a diplomat, & the head of a global risk firm. As a Visiting Fellow at Cornell Tech's Digital Life Initiative, she focused on technology's effects on discourse & democracy & taught a multi-university course on Tech, Media & Democracy.
