Components of a Big Data platform for Machine Learning at scale
Successful Machine learning at scale requires a tight collaboration between Data Science & Big Data Engineering teams. In this presentation, Flash team (Big Data Engineering @Jet) will talk about components that you need to get right in order to make Machine Learning at scale successful. This segment will also include a quick demo of a cloud hosted notebook solution powered by Big Data technologies such as Spark

7pm - 7:10pm | Lightning Talk Aashish Srinivas from Jet.com

Reactive Data Pipelines

How to Talk to a Machine: A Chatbot Tutorial
From ELIZA the computer therapist to your personal assistant Siri, consumers have been captivated by programs that "talk back". What data do we need to train a "Chatbot"? What kinds of models are available, & in what applications are they relevant? How can we evaluate whether a Chatbot is "good"? In this talk we will take a brief historical tour of conversational systems, & use the Ubuntu IRC Corpus to develop some example applications.

8pm - 8:30pm | Networking

Kevin is a software engineer working on one of the many data platforms at Jet. After studying Information Science at Cornell University, he worked with a handful of companies in finance & the big data space. In his free time, he enjoys obscure non-fiction & playing tourist in New York museums.

Joseph leads Data & Research Engineering at Jetblack, the first portfolio company in Walmart's Store No. 8 innovation incubator. He has previously worked as a Senior Data Scientist at Netflix, & in quantitative finance at AQR Capital Management.

Aashish is a software engineer at Jet, working on all things Big Data. He enjoys hiking, attending every home game of New York City's only soccer team (NYCFC), & trying to find the best bar nachos in New York City

Betaworks Studios is a new membership club for individuals looking to make a dent in the universe. Supported by innovative technology, this space is designed for connectivity within a curated community.

Studios is your space to meet, scheme, get advice, collaborate, do a little bit of work, attend events, & host events. For 10 years betaworks has been working & networking-building companies, running accelerators, investing in talent-and now we've opened our doors.

When designing Studios we aimed to build a functional, versatile space that can change & transform to suit the needs of the day or evening: events, discussions, group brainstorms, games, focused sprints. Move the furniture around: this is your club.
