About this Game Night
We're preparing[students} for these jobs of tomorrow, but we really don't even know what they are. It's almost like we're doing this with blinders on. ... We're doing all we can to give them the finite skills, the computer languages, the programming, but technology is expanding so rapidly, we almost can't keep up. -- Amy McLeod (Students are Being Prepared for Jobs That No Longer Exist)

Can a board game prepare students for the future of work?
College students only - JOIN USfor the next installment of this thought-provoking event that we first hosted earlier this year, & find out. This will be a fun, enlightening & self-reflective evening connecting with other students while playing the new, innovative board game IMPACT --aForesight Gamethat teaches you to think critically & imaginatively about emerging technologiesand the future of society. Afterwards, we'll discuss the results of how you & your team have decided the future will unfold!

Designed by futurists, IMPACTinvites playersto take onjobs of the future & navigate change in order to achieve their character's preferred future state. The game is meant to help players to (1)Learn the basics of futures thinking including some of the key terminology, (2)Learn about the latest advances in science & technology (neurotech, nanotech, artificial intelligence, IoT, biotech, robotics), & (3)Practice thinking about how these emerging technologies could evolve & the various ways they could influence society.

Our goal with the game is to train people to think more deeply about what could unfold in the future, including opportunities to discuss how emerging technologies will fit into our culture & how we will use them. The fact that players take on roles that may or may not align with their values helps them see things from different perspectives. The skill involved in taking multiple cards & undertaking a brief cross-impact analysis to create a relevant headline is not easy. We've found it to be especially challenging for those with engineering & business school backgrounds. Playing IMPACT requires you to think more like a novelist: Who are the characters? What's it like to live here? What period is this? -- Robert Bolton (Fast Company)
We'll be breaking up into teams with each team playing & reporting who their winner is & what they learned about the future of work. How will you & your teammates respond to future technological disruption? How can you begin to contemplate the future in a way that will provide answers, not just questions? Come out, play, & become a futurist for one night.
