Isabel Barrera is part of the mobile team atRent the Runway, a mid-size startup that rents designer fashion online at a fraction of the retail cost. Last month, Rent the Runway raised $60MM in Series D funding, and recently launched a disruptive new business called Unlimited; a subscription-based service that gives women unlimited access to hundreds of accessories for a subscription price of $50/month.
Isabel moved to New York in May of 2013 after spending her first year after college working on a startup based out of Toronto, Canada. She first heard about Rent the Runway from her sister in Boston, and became fascinated with the idea of anyone having access to luxury fashion, and the potential to break the traditional concept of a what your closet should be. She joined Rent the Runways engineering team a few months before the launch of their 5-star iOS app, and has been involved in the development of new mobile features ever since.
She graduated from Queens University in Canada with a major in biochemistry, and learned to code from a combination of elective courses in college and building prototypes for her startup after graduation. Her passion lies in two things: understanding how things work, and building things to solve problems. She loves meeting new people and hearing about things they are working on, and spends her free time either working on new apps or writing music on her guitar and keyboard.
