Hemant Taneja is a managing director at General Catalyst, & has been an early investor in market-leading companies like Digit, Grammarly, Gusto, Livongo, Mindstrong, Samsara, Snap, & Stripe. His 2018 book Unscaled articulates the need for accountability, transparency, & explainability in AI technologies as they permeate deeper into daily life, & his more recent Harvard Business Review article The Era of Move Fast & Break Things is Over encourages entrepreneurs & venture capitalists to adopt frameworks for responsible innovation & investing.
In addition to his investment work, Taneja is the cofounder of Advanced Energy Economy, an organization focused on transforming energy policy in America. He is a founding board member of the Khan Lab School, a nonprofit K-12 school dedicated to classroom innovation, & he sits on the Board of Fellows for the Stanford School of Medicine. At Stanford University, he also teaches a computer science course titled Artificial Intelligence, Entrepreneurship & Society in the 21st Century & Beyond.
