Companies guaranteeing diverse trail across the board in products, drugs & medical devices trials allows for a greater potential to for affective medical interventions. Diabetes, for example, disproportionately affects Hispanics & African Americans: a company manufacturing a drug to address diabetes should ensure they have an accurate representation of the affected populations in their clinical trials to ensure efficacy & safety of their product,. Manny Diaz | Platform Innovation & Design Lead, Janssen Manny Diaz has over 13 years of combined experience in project management, business intelligence, & supplier diversity. He serves as Platform Innovation & Design Lead at Johnson & Johnson, anticipating future business needs & exploring emerging technologies for potential solutions. In prior roles, Manny was responsible for Advanced Analytics, Supplier Diversity Metrics, facilitating insights that enabled Johnson & Johnson to become the first healthcare company to join the Billion Dollar Roundtable. Manny has been an active leader for both the Hispanic & LGBTQ Employee Resource Groups at Johnson & Johnson for over 10 years, through which he leads initiatives for Business Growth, Talent Development & Community Outreach. In 2016, Manny was recognized as Women's Business Advocate of the Year award by the Women's Business Enterprise Council for his commitment to opening the doors for women business enterprises. Effie Manos | Functional Manager- Neuroscience, Janssen Effie Manos has been in clinical research for almost 20 years. She has held various positions in data management, study coordination, quality assurance, site management, training & operations management. Since 2001, Effie has been with Johnson & Johnson (Janssen R &D). Currently she is responsible for oversight of projects & people in Neuroscience for Global Clinical Operations. She is also the Diversity in Clinical Trials Lead for Janssen where she & her team work on developing partnerships & raising awareness in disparities associated with Clinical research. Effie is an avid yogi & resides in Portland Oregon with her 2 young children & cinematographer husband where they fully enjoy all the NW has to offer including camping, climbing, biking & hiking. Dr. Fabian Sandoval | CEO & Research Director, Emerson Clinical Resource Institute Dr. Fabian Sandoval, CEO & Research Director, has over 20 years of bench to bedside research experience. His diversified research career has been in academia, healthcare systems & the public sector. He received his Bachelors of Science in molecular & cellular biology from Marymount University, & his Doctorate of Medicine from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, School of Medicine. Before opening the doors to Emerson Clinical Research Institute (ECRI) Dr. Sandoval's research activities have included bench research at the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders & Stroke (NINDS) where he focused his work on Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease, & Cretzfelt-Jakob Disease. At the NIHs' Clinical Center conducting research in the outpatient Oncology unit, followed by his successful support of an NIH RO1 grant on preventing epilepsy in post-traumatic brain injury patients in adults & children, simultaneously run at the Washington Hospital Center, & Children's National Medical Center. Dr. Sandoval served as the Supervisory Research Integrity & Compliance Officer in the Army Human Research Protections Office in the Office of the Army Surgeon General. Responsibilities included establishment, & oversight of Human Research Protection Programs across Army commands. His input has been instrumental in the review, development, & selection of protocols, in addition to education & training for resident & hospital faculty.
Carmen White | IPE Program Manager, Janssen R&D Carmen White has over 12 years of clinical trials patient engagement & healthcare communications experience serving the public sector, academia, & the pharmaceutical industry, working on both the specialized-service agency & sponsor side. She has supported clinical trials in multiple therapeutic areas including Oncology, Metabolic, Cardiovascular & CNS, & developed protocol review, public awareness, & community outreach programs for a leading multi-center comprehensive cancer center. As Program Manager, Carmen is responsible for the strategic development of patient & site-facing recruitment, retention, & compliance strategies for global clinical research programs in the area of Neuroscience & creates specialized initiatives for the sponsor's disease area strongholds. Within Janssen, she has lead & contributed to the successful implementation of programs impacting pediatrics trial conduct, diversity, & data collection to improve trial execution & how information is delivered to patients & sites.
