Designing & planning research with kids present unique challenges for methodology & data collection. This presentation explores best practices for developmentally appropriate research with kids ages 3- to 11-years-old. From concept testing to surveys, well consider ways that play- & story-based methods help kids show you what they think & feel. Review common metrics such as appeal, engagement, & comprehension. Understand how child development, education, & UX principles come together to inform the development of engaging research experiences. Discuss how lessons learned translate to research domains such as diversity, accessibility, & data privacy.
Speaker Bio
LaToye Adams is the founder of WonderWhy Consulting. Through WonderWhy, LaToye provides research & education consultation that informs the creation of engaging content & products for children & families.
Formerly, LaToye was a UX researcher designing & conducting user experience research on virtual reality & learning management systems. LaToye was also a Research Director at Michael Cohen Group where she led agency research for clients including Nickelodeons Bubble Guppies, YouTube Originals Kids & Learning & the US Department of Education. LaToye explored the classroom & the playground as a Teachers Aide at Margaret's House Childcare Center. Her love of childrens media & technology was catalyzed by her training at Sesame Workshop & the Early Career Fellowship at The Fred Rogers Center.
LaToye has the great joy of serving as National President of the non-profit organization Childrens Media Association. She earned a BFA in animation from Rochester Institute of Technology & an MA in developmental psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
