EVENT DETAILS
Deep generative models are a large class of machine learning algorithms which have stolen the attention of artists over the past two years, by hallucinating imitations of images from the uncanny valley. This workshop will survey the landscape of these representational models, & contain tutorials for how to train your own versions of themusing existing open-source codebases which implement them & cloud computation resources.

This one-day workshop will begin with a short presentation, introducingautoencoders & generative adversarial networks & reviewing their basic properties, as well as showing a selection of artworks & other creative projects that have made use of them. We will then have the following tutorials: collecting a large dataset from the internet andpre-processingit, & training a deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) on a dataset of images & using it to generate new images.

Instructor
Gene Koganis an artist & a programmer who is interested in generative systems, computer science, & software for creativity & self-expression. He is a collaborator within numerousopen-sourcesoftware projects, & givesworkshopsandlectureson topics at the intersection of code & art. Gene initiatedml4a, a free book about machine learning for artists, activists, & citizen scientists, & regularly publishesvideo lectures, writings, & tutorials to facilitate a greater public understanding of the subject
