WHAT?

Acquisition by a major tech company is the ultimate goal for many startups. Multiple factors, both internal & external, contribute to the exit potential of a company. However, Founders that understand the specific characteristics of an attractive acquisition target & optimize their businesses to achieve these outcomes, will be differentiated from competitors & best positioned for success. Hear from our panel of Founders & CEOs with direct experience selling companies to Apple, AOL, Zillow, & more, on what it takes to build a company for exit.

JOE MEYER the Founder & CEO of ExecThread, a NYC-based venture capital-backed start-up & premium job-sharing network for executives & the largest aggregator of unpublished executive-level job opportunities in the world. Joe was previously the CEO of HopStop & was responsible for its acquisition by Apple in 2013. Prior to Hopstop, Joe was the VP of Publisher Services of Quigo, where he scaled revenue from $5M to $50M in 2 years & which lead to the company's acquisition by AOL for over $375M. Joe has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by Crain's New York Business & was #9 on Business Insider's 2013 "Silicon Alley 100" list. He was on the Board of Directors of Kalexo (acquired by Autodesk) & Belief Networks (acquired by Benefit Focus), & on the Board of Advisors of Adtuitive (acquired by Etsy). Joe is currently on the Board of Advisors of Snooth (popular wine marketplace) & Spongecell (programmatic rich media ad tech startup).

SEAN BLACK is an entrepreneur & an early stage investor. Sean is Founder & CEO of Knock.com, a home trade-in platform, on a mission to make home selling simple & certain. Knock brings home-sellers the same transparency that Trulia & Zillow brought to home-buyers. Sean was on the founding team at Trulia where he was involved in the overall business strategy, growth & development from inception. Trulia went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2012 (NYSE: TRLA) & was acquired by Zillow 2 years later for $3.5B. The Zillow Group is now the largest consumer real estate marketplace in the World with over 180M monthly unique visitors. Through his personal investment vehicle, Transparent Ventures, Sean is an investor in other tech companies that bring radical transparency, convenience, & savings to consumers, including NerdWallet, SeatGeek, Paintzen, Zeel, Peach, Smith (acquired by Porch.com) & NFX Guild.
