Join us during Climate Week for an afternoon with the Amazon Conservation Team (ACT), where we'll explore how Indigenous knowledge & innovative technology come together to protect some of the world's most critical ecosystems & the cultures that have stewarded them for generations.
Across the Amazon rainforest & beyond, ACT works alongside Indigenous communities to strengthen territorial governance, support forest monitoring, & protect intact ecosystems that are vital to the global climate. A growing part of this work involves combining traditional knowledge with advanced tools such as satellite imagery, participatory mapping, & real-time monitoring systems.
These technologies allow Indigenous communities to map & monitor their territories, identify threats such as illegal mining or logging, & protect areas that remain among the most biodiverse & least disturbed forests on Earth. They are also critical for safeguarding regions inhabited by Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation, where protection depends on early detection of threats & strong territorial protection.
The event will feature a short presentation highlighting how ACT & Indigenous partners use satellite data, mapping technologies, & community-based monitoring to protect millions of hectares of forest, followed by an open discussion about the future of conservation technology & Indigenous-led climate solutions.
Light snacks & refreshments will be provided.
By registering for this event, you agree to share your registration information with the organizers of SF Climate Week.
