Explore Spiritual Wisdom for the Age of AI with Church on Park, in partnership with VOCA Center.
Every week brings a new AI headline. A breakthrough. A warning. A system doing something no one programmed it to do.
The pace is real. The stakes are real. And most of the conversations happening about AI are either breathlessly optimistic or catastrophizing. Neither is useful.
This event is different.
We're bringing together four professionals who are building & deploying AI in their daily work - touching healthcare, AI governance, film, & social media - for an honest conversation about what this technology is actually doing & what it means for how we live.
Here's how the evening works:
The panel opens with a brief, grounded look at how each of them is using AI right now - what's working, what's surprising, & what's keeping them up at night. We'll align on key terminology & the most relevant developments in the field.
Then we go deeper - into small group conversations around questions that matter:
Is AI sentient? And does it matter if it isn't - but increasingly acts like it thinks it is?
If AI eliminates disease & delivers universal income but eliminates most work, where does meaning come from?
How do we separate legitimate risks from Terminator scenarios?
If you could write the values into an AI system that will eventually surpass human capability - what would you say?
For thousands of years, spiritual traditions have wrestled with what it means to be a good person & live a meaningful life. Those questions aren't obsolete. They're more urgent than ever.
We'll close with a practical conversation: What can we do - as individuals & as a community - to engage this technology wisely, without either naivety or paralysis?
