Docker 5th Birthday Party - NYC Edition

Here's an overview of the lab's well be running!

Docker 101 - Linux & Windows: An introduction to Docker on Linux that takes you through the basics of the platform, building your first containers, & deploying them in an orchestration system. Kubernetes on Docker for Mac & Docker for Windows: This lab will cover the basics of running Kubernetes & how to create your cluster on your desktop

Modernizing Traditional Java Apps: This lab will take a traditional, Java EE monolithic application & show you how to containerize it, & then break out a few pieces to have a more modern, modular deployment of the application built on Docker EE. Modernizing Traditional .NET / Windows Apps: This lab will take a traditional, ASP.NET monolithic application & show you how to containerize it, & then break out a few pieces to have a more modern, modular deployment of the application built on Docker EE.

Deploying Multi-OS applications with Docker EE: In this workshop, you will deploy & refactor a traditional Java application on Linux, into a microservice application, some of the services in in Java on Linux, some in .NET on Windows, & deploy the application on a hybrid Docker Enterprise Edition cluster with Linux & Windows nodes.

Attendees should make sure to bring their own laptops to complete the labs.

No need to install anything ahead of these events, we'll be using Play with Docker (PWD), a Docker playground which allows users to run Docker commands in a matter of seconds. It gives the experience of having a free Alpine Linux Virtual Machine in browser, where you can build & run Docker containers & even create clusters. In addition to the playground, PWD also includes a training site composed of a large set of Docker labs & quizzes from beginner to advanced level available at training.play-with-docker.com.

If following the Kubernetes on Docker for Mac & Docker for Windows, youll need to install Docker for Mac or Docker for Windows, depending on your operating system.
