Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Senior AI Engineer to join our AI team.

About the role
In this role, you will join Oscars AI team to transform healthcare with cutting-edge Generative AI solutions. You will collaborate with top engineers & data scientists to build impactful AI-driven applications across the healthcare ecosystem.
You will be responsible for leveraging Generative AI to optimize healthcare operations across many different use cases, build end-to-end prototypes, & measure success with your strong statistical & / or analytical background. You will use your creativity, ambition & determination to solve the health insurance industrys biggest problems, tackle ambiguous performance issues & meet requirements for production launches.
You will work on the central AI Pod at Oscar. This team is responsible for both enabling the rest of Oscars AI applications as well as directly delivering value on the most strategic AI projects in the business.
- On the enablement side, you will engage with third-party AI partners to test new models & techniques as they come to the market, maintain core AI infrastructure for the rest of the company, & facilitate regular hacking sessions & knowledge sharing sessions.
- On the project side, you will work with stakeholders to dive into the details of a domain & define requirements for AI software based on the use case. You will decide when & if you need a python script, a third party tool, a full stack web app, or some combination. You will execute on those requirements independently or with a small team. Youll carefully review results, generate ideas to achieve your target, & keep iterating until you get there. You dont shy away from problems with no right answer & youre comfortable in a world of ambiguity because you love creative problem solving & collaboration.
You will report to the Senior Product Manager, AI Innovation.
Work Location:
This is a hybrid role in our New York office (in Hudson Square). You will work part of the time in the office & part of the time remote / work-from-home. #LI-Hybrid
Pay Transparency:
The base pay for this role is: $158,400 - $207,900 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscars unlimited vacation program, company equity grants, & annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities
- Build & maintain core enterprise-wide AI infrastructure, integrating third-party AI models & tools.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of AI solutions, from requirements gathering to production in collaboration with cross functional partners
- Mentor colleagues to strengthen AI fluency, foster innovation, & influence roadmaps.
- Act as a key contributor to AI strategy, identifying opportunities for impactful applications & enabling their delivery.
- Compliance with all applicable laws & regulations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering or data science experience, working with a variety of technologies, & have increasingly impactful accomplishments
- Proficiency in Python & statistical fundamentals (e.g., bias-variance trade-offs, probability distributions)
- Experience solving complex, ambiguous problems
- Familiarity with widely used AI frameworks & tools (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex) & prototyping libraries (e.g., Streamlit, Replit,
- Tesseract)
- Experience or an interest in prototyping full-stack applications
Bonus Points
- Experience with the healthcare industry. Familiarity with claims or clinical data.
- Degree in math, statistics, data science, or engineering. Our ideal candidate is a data scientist with an engineering background or an engineer with a data science background!
- Experience with NLP, neural networks, transformers, & modern AI frameworks.
- Knowledge of containerization & deployment tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) or full-stack development (e.g., React, Golang).
- Experimental mindset: comfort with testing hypotheses & iterating on failures.
