At Squarespace, our backend engineers work on Product Engineering teams, which are dedicated to creating the most seamless, integrated products possible. This is a hybrid role working from our NYC office 3 days per week. You will report to the Product Engineering Team Lead.

We are hiring for the following product team(s):

Website Platform: This team renders all customer websites at Squarespace & maintains the health of the platform. They create easily accessible features for our our teams to use to provide our customers with beautiful sites. Additionally, we are pursuing next-generation components to replace our old rendering technologies which gives users more freedom & control over their components.

Conversions: The Conversions team is a member of the Growth organization at Squarespace. They own several workflows including Designer Templates, Template Store & Squarespace Blueprint (a guided website design system providing a curated layout & styling options to help customers build a unique online presence from the ground up). They are critical for entrepreneurs to start building their business & brand online.

You'll Get To

• Practice disciplined software engineering, writing server-side code, create high-volume production applications, & developing prototypes quickly.
• Lead the development of new features & you will build backend services with Java.
• Collaborate with other engineers & designers to provide intuitive customer-focused experiences.
• Ensure the reliability of systems essential to Squarespace users & businesses powered by Squarespace.

Who We're Looking For

• 7+ years of development experience in Java, Python, Go or another Object-oriented language. Experience developing large-scale software.
• A solid foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, & software design practices.
• A sincere commitment to creating readable code & an understanding of database schema design, caching & scalability.
• A degree in Computer Science or related or equivalent industry experience.

Cash Compensation Range: $128,500 - $231,500 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, & location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), all Squarespace employees are eligible to receive equity in the company as part of their total compensation.
