The Role

We are looking for a dynamic & creative product marketing manager to help us launch BuzzFeed Island, a new mobile app designed to transform social media from a passive experience into an interactive & creative one. Leveraging AI, were pioneering a new way for users to explore, create, & engage with dynamic, interest-driven spaces that foster connection & creativity. In this role, you will help us launch with energy, grow with intention, & turn users into fans while making sure everything we do feels fun, fresh, & unmistakably on-brand.

This is a full-time, hybrid position located in our New York City office.

You Will

  • Define & evolve the products positioning, messaging, & narrative & make sure it shows up consistently across product surfaces, app stores, content, & comms
  • Develop deep understanding of our target users (and potential haters): run research, gather insights, synthesize feedback loops
  • Drive demand generation before launch through creative campaigns, waitlist mechanics, social storytelling, & early access incentives 
  • Cultivate an engaged beta community & design activation strategies to convert them into evangelists post-launch
  • Define & own the go-to-market strategy, including messaging, launch planning, & the identification of high-impact marketing channels for both launch & sustained growth
  • Work closely with the product, design & content teams to prioritize & build the right virality loops within the product 
  • Contribute to building the foundation of post-acquisition journeys, including onboarding, push/email strategy, & user education. Optimize for early activation, habit formation, & community engagement
  • Define success metrics for marketing campaigns & programs. Design & interpret experiments that inform audience targeting, messaging resonance, & channel performance

You Have

  • 57 years of experience in product marketing, content strategy, or audience development for consumer products and/or entertainment 
  • Youre fluent in product thinking but have a storytellers heart you can write a launch brief & a headline that makes people care
  • Equal parts strategist & operator: you know how to zoom in on a screen & zoom out to a market trend
  • You've launched & grown at least one consumer app & know that getting someone to download an app is a lot harder than getting a click. Youve fought the App Store wars & lived to tell the tale
  • Strong collaborator across product, design, editorial, & comms & comfortable leading without formal authority
  • Curious about AI, excited about experimentation, & not allergic to a little weirdness

  • Youve launched a 01 product or major new feature
  • Experience with brand voice, onboarding design, app store optimization, or user education
  • Youve read Jonah Perettis SNARF memo & said yes, that.
