Apply To Job

At Squarespace, our award-winning Creative Department creates all the advertising, content, & design work we use to build & market our brand. We've built our internal production capabilities to the point where we can shoot & edit the vast majority of our work in-house, & we're looking for an experienced filmmaker to help us continue delivering beautiful, & compulsively watchable videos.

The ideal candidate is a DP first & a director second. They should have the technical ability & aesthetic taste to light scenes, operate professional camera & lens packages, & tell cinematic & engaging stories. You should be familiar with all aspects of video production, from pre-production to post-production, & have the ability to maintain relationships with external vendors & crew. You'll flex from one-person shoots to more complex productions in partnership with other creative team members. Deliverables will include interviews with key executives & customers for investor relations, recruiting content, elevated product demos, documentary-style content with our Squarespace Collections talent, behind-the-scenes videos, & fun ideas for our social channels.

This is an onsite role that reports to the Senior Creative Manager of our Studio team at our New York City flagship office.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • A strong reel of previous work & specifics about your role on each project. If you went to film school, great. If not, it's also great.
  • Familiarity with & ability to operate professional cameras & lens packages (mirrorless & DSLR packages don't count, sorry).
  • Familiarity with & ability to build beautiful & cinematic lighting in the studio & on location (both with & without a gaffer).
  • Broad knowledge of film aesthetics, the ability to determine the correct aesthetic per project type, & execute them.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broader creative team. Sometimes, this will include shooting scripts you didn't write & supporting other directors as a DP.
  • Experience with a broad range of deliverables, aspect ratios, & channels.
  • Ability to plan on set for animation, compositing, & type placement to be applied during the edit.
  • Willingness to build & maintain a network of crew members & vendors primarily in NYC but also in LA.
  • A strong desire to make every project, at whatever scale, better than it needs to be.
  • Experience with video editing, color correction, sound design, & mixing are all pluses.
