About the team & the role

theSkimm is looking to hire a writer on its editorial team. theSkimms editorial team is a collaborative group of journalists from traditional media backgrounds, & we understand how to write high-quality journalism in theSkimms distinct voice. We're looking for a culture junkie to write our Weekend Skimm newsletters, which focus on culture & lifestyle. 

Were looking for someone whos got a finger on the pulse of whats being talked about online, & has an eye for lifestyle hacks to improve our readers leisure time. You will report to the Senior Editor, Weekend Skimm & work collaboratively with the entire content team at theSkimm.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING

• Pitch complete rundowns for both Saturday & Sundays newsletters
• Book & interview talent for the newsletters 
• Write & fact check complete drafts for Saturday & Sundays newsletters, work with Senior Editor to incorporate feedback 
• Manage newsletter production process, from ideation to final upload
• Pre-write for holiday newsletter editions
• Update theSkimms app & Web page 

What would set you up for success

• BS/BA degree
• 4+ yrs experience in journalism, with experience specifically covering culture & lifestyle beats 
• Experience working in a newsroom
• Highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple projects at once
• Clear communication skills, & an ability to respond quickly to change
• Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
• Experience learning & writing in a specific brand voice

What would set you apart

• Multiple years writing about lifestyle & culture, with a distinct voice & point of view 
• Editing experience

This is a full-time role based in New York, NY. 

The expected annual base salary for this role is $70,000-85,000. Well consider a variety of factors when determining the offered base salary including an evaluation of a candidates skills, abilities, experience, location, market demands, & internal parity.

What about the office?

This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work. 

Our office is available to use three days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. We have a hybrid environment & ask that employees within the New York Metro area come together in person a minimum of three days per month. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open.
