What Youll Do
We are seeking a dynamic & strategic Controller to take the lead in optimizing our financial operations & driving organizational growth through both organic & acquisition transactions. With exceptional communication skills & a strong background in financial analysis, you will oversee & enhance the financial accounting & reporting process as well as serve as an integral part of budgeting & management & board reporting.
Reporting directly to the CFO & serving as a member of the leadership team, you will deliver actionable insights & play a critical role in guiding our financial strategy & delivering on those goals. This hybrid role offers flexibility, with the ability to be in-person in Manhattan on a regular basis. Candidates must reside within the New York tri-state area. Occasional travel within the US & to London is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership & Reporting: (i) Oversee the accounting process including general ledger, accounts receivable/payable, & payroll & (ii) Provide comprehensive financial updates & insights to company leadership, delivering accurate & timely evaluations, analyses, & reports to inform strategic decisions.
- Taxation: Working with our external CPA firms, ensure timely & accurate reporting for federal, state, & local income & other taxes including commercial rent taxes, Value Added Tax (VAT), franchise taxes, etc.Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with FP&A to develop & report against the budget & interim forecasts.
- Operational Efficiency: Design, implement, & enforce robust financial controls, guidelines, & operational benchmarks to enhance efficiency & minimize risk.
- Team Development: Lead & expand the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, & professional growth.
- Strategic Decision-Making: Guide financial decision-making by applying company policies within the context of evolving economic landscapes.
- Payroll Optimization: Develop & implement innovative payroll processes to maximize accuracy & efficiency.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to national, state, & local regulations, including UK VAT compliance, while administering consistent accounting policies & controls.
- Operational Strategy Support: Contribute to the development & execution of short- & long-term operational strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Policy Documentation: Maintain & refine a documented system of accounting policies, operational procedures, & controls to mitigate risk & ensure consistency.
What We Look For
- Experience & Certification:
- 10+ years of professional accounting experience, including 5+ years as a senior-level finance or accounting manager in a high-volume, multi-unit environment (preferred).
- CPA certification required; experience with consolidated entities & UK GAAP & taxation preferred.
- Experience with acquisition diligence & integration strongly preferred, but not required.
- Experience working within a NetSuite environment is desirable.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of US & UK GAAP, financial data analysis, banking processes, & tax regulations across the US & UK.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience building, managing, & mentoring high-performing teams.
- Strategic Vision: Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, navigating both high-level planning & day-to-day management.
- Change Leadership: A proactive change agent who thrives in a growth-oriented environment, embraces innovation, & inspires excellence.
- Project Management: Track record of successfully managing complex financial projects with measurable outcomes.

Base Salary:
Salary Min: $200,000 Salary Max: $225,000
This role is also eligible for Convene's annual incentive performance bonus plan.
