Squarespace empowers people with creative ideas to succeed. As a Trust & Safety Lead, you will support this mission by working to keep our platform safe & compliant. You will learn & keep apprised of global technology laws & policies, communicate with our users & third parties, & work closely with our Legal team. You will also collaborate with our Engineering & Customer Operations teams. This role reports into our Trust & Safety Senior Lead & is based in our New York headquarters.

Youll Get To...

  • Respond to legal requests & allegations of abuse & misuse of Squarespaces services, including law enforcement inquiries, intellectual property infringement allegations, & complex privacy matters, ensuring every case is handled with total accuracy.
  • Develop & refine Trust & Safety (T&S) policies & procedures that scale with the business, ensuring the team is equipped to handle evolving global regulations & platform growth.
  • Work closely with Customer Operations, Product, Engineering, & Risk teams to ensure successful launch of new products & features, including advocating & integrating necessary T&S features, functionality & workflows.
  • Spot risks in new product offerings, reviewing upcoming launches to make sure our team can support them safely as the business expands.
  • Serve as a crisis lead for T&S incidents, using company policies to make recommendations, coordinating response, documenting decisions, & advising leadership.
  • Translate complex investigations, data, & risk assessments into clear, actionable updates for senior stakeholders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for T&S tools, enforcement frameworks, & industry trends, & share knowledge with Legal & cross functional partners.
  • Monitor the broader Trust & Safety landscape, including regulatory developments & peer company approaches, to inform internal strategy.

Who We're Looking For

  • 4-6+ years of Trust & Safety experience at a global internet or technology company, with direct experience handling high-stakes escalations & complex workflows.
  • Strong working knowledge of global internet law & policy, including copyright & trademark, privacy, content moderation, platform level regulation (e.g., TAKE IT DOWN Act, EU Digital Services Act), & global trends.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Trust & Safety industry, including current trends & competitor approaches.
  • Excellent written  communication skills, & ability to present complex fact scenarios, risk assessments & proposals to executive stakeholders.
  • Exceptional judgment & the ability to make objective, evidence-based decisions in "gray areas" where policies may not be clearly defined or where complex & myriad roles, permissions, product offerings & systems are in consideration.
  • Comfortable in dealing with explicit and/or objectionable content.    
  • Emotional resilience & the ability to remain calm & decisive during a crisis.
  • Product fluency & interest in how T&S integrates into platform design & user experience.
  • 4 year degree (BA/BS)

Cash Compensation Range: $95,000 - $135,000 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, & location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure in addition to base salary.
