Warby Parker is on the lookout for a Staff Web Engineer to help drive the evolution of our mission critical business systems. In this role youll take ownership of the development, design, testing strategy & standards of the Warby Parker web application. Youll also help establish best practices & guidance around all aspects of our technology in order to help build a best-in-class technology discipline. Think youve got the goods? Keep reading.

What youll do:

  • Help build & design a roadmap for your engineering team to build highly scalable, observable, & reliable systems
  • Drive the execution & delivery of this roadmap across the engineering organization, working closely with stakeholders, SREs, & other principal engineers 
  • Provide technical guidance & facilitate the process of engineering design reviews on migrations towards service-oriented architecture, changes to existing architecture, & making existing systems more scalable
  • Build a metrics-driven operational culture support our practices for KPI measurement & review, as well as for logging, monitoring, alerting practices
  • Propose & drive large improvements to business systems to achieve significant impact to our business 
  • Mentor & coach other engineers to be help solve technical challenges & grow overall technical prowesses

Who you are:

  • Backed by 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experienced building modern & performant frontend applications with or more modern client-side frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular, Ember) in a professional setting
  • An expert in domain modeling & system design
  • Someone with deep technical experience with cloud providers, distributed systems, & service-oriented architecture
  • A clear, concise communicator with the ability to influence others
  • Someone with a strong belief in accountability, who holds engineering teams to a high standard
  • An expert in data modeling in one or more modern relational databases
  • Someone with strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, object-oriented design, algorithm design, problem solving, & complexity analysis
  • Able, willing, & just plain excited to learn new domains quickly
  • Insatiably curious & passionate about innovation
  • Not on the Office of Inspector Generals List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)

Extra credit:

  • Direct involvement with open source software projects
  • Experience optimizing the JavaScript performance of high-volume systems

Warby Parker, in good faith, believes that the posted salary range is accurate for this role in New York at the time of posting. Warby Parker may pay more or less than the posted range based on factors such as relevant experience & skills, qualifications & location, among others. This range may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, this role is also eligible to receive an equity bonus as part of the total compensation package.
