The Community You Will Join

HuffPost is seeks a skilled, experienced, ambitious reporter to cover breaking news during U.S. Eastern Time morning hours for our large, diverse, engaged, & news-obsessed audience. The reporter will be on the frontline of HuffPosts coverage of the day's significant stories & will cover breaking news across a range of subjects, from U.S. politics to major court cases to international events. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in reporting; however, we encourage candidates with less experience to apply, provided they have the necessary skills for the role.

This roles typical shifts take place during U.S. Eastern Time morning/daytime & will involve work on one weekend day. If you are located near the New York City office, you will be required to come into the office on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.

A Typical Day

•  Report on breaking news on a range of subjects.
• Contribute to live coverage of significant events, such as elections, debates, & natural disasters.
• Consistently pitch ideas for daily news coverage & execute them.
• Independently identify which news events to cover & how to cover them

Who You Are

•  Exceptional writing & research skills.
• A willingness to hit the phones & pivot from one topic to another without hesitation.
• Command of how to report & structure a news story.
• Strong news judgment.
• A knack for brainstorming informative, interesting, & fun story ideas.
• The ability to collaborate across multiple teams & juggle several stories & projects at the same time.
• Speed & precision in covering breaking news events, & an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• An expansive & varied news diet & an obsession with breaking news.
• A minimum of five years of reporting experience. (We encourage candidates with less experience to apply, provided they have the necessary skills for the role.)
• Fluency in digital news-gathering tools, including social media, is a plus.
