Squarespace is looking for a versatile senior counsel to join our global Legal team. As a key part of the fast-growing global organization, you will work across subject matters on a range of legal & business issues, with a primary focus on financial regulations. You will serve as a strategic advisor to the company, & provide general legal advice & support across business functions.

You will report directly to the Assistant General Counsel & will be based in our New York City office (flex/hybrid).

You'll Get To

• Be a trusted advisor on legal issues, including to senior executives
• Provide creative, flexible & proactive regulatory, product & commercial advice on payment services & related financial products
• Identify business requirements resulting from existing, evolving & new laws & regulations
• Review & negotiate agreements with third-party service providers & other financial services companies & banks
• Drive regulatory & risk management for cross functional projects
• Build scalable processes for legal review of new products
• Efficiently leverage & manage outside counsel where necessary
• Advise on legal strategy & best practises for customer-facing documentation
• Develop strong working relationships, build trust & work collaboratively across multiple departments, influencing & supporting a culture of payments compliance
• Collaborate with, & periodically travel to, our other offices in the United States & Dublin, Ireland

Who We're Looking For

• 5+ years experience providing advice related to payment regulatory compliance
• Knowledge & experience with payment product compliance & the risks & regulations applicable to consumer-facing financial services & products
• Expertise in U.S. & international payments & financial regulations, card network rules, other rules & codes
• Knowledge of the online payments landscape & emerging payment systems
• Previous in-house experience in a payments or financial technology company
• Self-starter with great judgement, commercial & solution-based outlook & the ability to work well both independently & collaboratively

Cash Compensation Range: $153,500 - $247,250 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, & location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), all Squarespace employees are eligible to receive equity in the company as part of their total compensation.
