We are seeking a Social Editor to help manage a suite of New York Magazines social accounts. You should have a strong grasp of the social landscape, its various platforms & audiences, & constantly evolving trends.

WHAT YOULL DO

  • Manage a suite of off-platform accounts. Youll be responsible for their engagement, growth, & voice. You must have strong news judgment, sharp editorial sensibility, & a sense of humor.
  • Manually curate & frame stories for various platforms & audiences on a daily basis. Package & translate our journalism to feel native to the platforms on which they are published & without sacrificing editorial voice & integrity.
  • Participate in off-platform conversations in service of making our accounts feel relevant & timely. 
  • Work under direction of Editorial Director of Audience to refine strategy across accounts & closely monitor performance & identify new potential audiences we should reach.
  • Pitch & execute quick turnaround platform-first ideas & franchises as bandwidth allows.
  • Experiment with, & craft best practices for, new & emerging digital spaces as assigned.
  • Collaborate with a team of audience editors to coordinate on posting strategy & framing for different audiences & accounts.
  • Assist in programming of the New York Magazine app.
  • Assist in establishing team workflows, platform setup, maintaining a news calendar, coverage of off-platform accounts, newsletter production, community management, homepage programming, & other coverage or responsibilities as needed.
  • Collaborate & deliver on regular reporting & insights that can help inform assigning, packaging, & larger audience strategy.
  • Be flexible to the demands of a newsroom schedule. This role will require working some nights and/or weekends, in response to the news cycle.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Strong writing & editing skills, impeccable attention to detail, & an intolerance for errors
  • Prior experience growing an audience
  • Strong editorial & news judgment
  • A sharp sense of humor
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite & Figma
  • Strong understanding of analytics & social media trends across platforms
  • 2-3 years of experience
