Squarespace is hiring a backend engineer to join the Data Platform Group. We are focused on building interoperable software & systematic processes to provide relevant data-driven insights to our customers. These data signals directly support initiatives in the company's core products.

As part of the Data Distribution team within Data Platform, you will design & develop APIs & other interfaces to facilitate the programmatic delivery of datasets to internal & external stakeholders. You will also build self-service oriented tools to allow our partner teams to spin up data delivery mechanisms. This is a hybrid role working from our NYC office 3 days per week. You will report to the manager of Data Distribution.

You'll Get To

• Design & implement robust, flexible APIs to serve a diverse variety of datasets to customers
• Build self-service tools/frameworks to enable stakeholders to set up delivery of product-oriented data
• Contribute to peer review of source code changes, discussions of technical architecture, evaluations of system design tradeoffs, continuous refinement of our best practices
• Incorporate 'Privacy by Design' principles throughout our data ecosystem, protecting the data of Squarespace & our customers
• Collaborate with product managers, product engineers, data owners, & data stewards to bring high-quality products to life
• Work with other engineers to improve the reliability, scalability, & maintainability of our microservices & pipelines

Who We're Looking For

• 3+ years of experience building microservices & API layers
• 1+ years of experience owning backend systems/components throughout the entire software development lifecycle
• Prior experience with API design, relational & non-relational databases, & cloud platform integrations
• Basic familiarity with sensitive data handling, containerization/orchestration/microservices, CI/CD pipelines is beneficial
• Experience developing in Java is preferred
