Vulture is expanding its video operation with the hiring of a Video Producer. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for an ambitious producer/editor who can create standout video storytelling, establish production systems, & translate Vultures editorial voice into new formats & platforms. Youll work from our New York office & collaborate closely with editorial, social, audience, & Vox Studios partners, helping to guide the strategy, standards, & day-to-day workflows for video at Vulture.

WHO WE ARE

Vulture, New York Magazine's home for pop culture & entertainment coverage, is where savvy culture consumers come to find sharp, obsessive coverage of their favorite entertainment & the people who create it.

Vulture is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about whats now, whats next, & whats possible.

As a community of journalists & storytellers, business professionals, creators & technologists, we believe it is a moral & business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, & inclusion throughout our organization & media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, & our platforms, products, & partnerships.

WHAT YOULL DO

  • Own end-to-end video production for Vulture: conceive, pitch, produce, shoot, edit & deliver ambitious short- & long-form video across web, YouTube, & social platforms.

  • Help add structure to Vultures video program: create production templates, naming conventions, file-delivery standards, budgeting processes, & a rollout calendar.

  • Produce studio & remote shoots: coordinate with Vox Studios to secure gear, set up & operate camera, lighting & sound, or hire & oversee shooters & crew for field shoots.

  • Edit videos for horizontal & vertical formats, including color correction, audio mix, & simple motion graphics.

  • Design or commission thumbnails & title sequences.

  • Build a roster of freelance videographers, editors, & motion designers; negotiate rates & scope, & commission external teams as needed.

  • Source & book talent, manage on-set logistics, & liaise with publicists & agents.

  • Collaborate across teams: work with editors, social editors, the audience team, & product to optimize storytelling, distribution, & engagement strategy.

  • Use metrics & feedback to iterate on formats, timing, & promotion; run post-mortems & use performance data to inform future ideas.

  • Ensure legal & clearance processes are followed for music, clips & talent releases, working with Legal/Clearance as needed.

  • Troubleshoot technical & production challenges in real time & maintain production equipment or vendor relationships.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Proven track record producing & editing digital video for editorial or branded platforms.

  • Strong hands-on experience with camera, lighting & sound setup & operation; comfortable running shoots alone or leading small crews.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects; strong sense for pacing, story, & visual design.

  • Demonstrated ability to shoot & edit for both horizontal (YouTube/web) & vertical (TikTok/Reels) formats.

  • Experience creating motion graphics, title sequences & thumbnails.

  • Excellent project management skills able to juggle multiple projects, timelines, freelancers & stakeholders simultaneously.

  • Comfortable working autonomously & making editorial & production decisions as the primary video lead.

  • Strong communication skills & the ability to partner with editors, social, audience, legal & external vendors.

  • A portfolio or reel demonstrating producing & editing credits & your role on each project.

Preferred

  • 46+ years producing & editing digital video; experience launching or leading a small video initiative or team.

  • Experience building vendor networks & managing freelance rosters.

  • Familiarity with codecs, transcodes, deliverables, metadata, & media asset management best practices.

  • Basic audio mixing, color grading, & motion design skills beyond cut-level editing.

  • Experience using analytics tools to measure video performance & inform editorial decisions.

  • Prior experience booking high-profile talent or handling talent logistics for editorial shoots.

Why this role matters

This role is ideal for a self-starter who is excited by both the craft of making distinctive video & the work of building processes, systems, & relationships that let that work scale. Youll have editorial freedom to experiment, influence Vultures multimedia strategy, & shape how our culture coverage lives on screen.
