Well, not much other than that they all have mobile apps built on top of the <A HREF="http://www.parse.com/" REL="nofollow nofollow">Parse Cloud</A>! Parse, acquired by <A HREF="http://www.facebook.com/" REL="nofollow nofollow">Facebook</A> in 2013, adds a scalable and powerful backend to mobile apps eliminating the need to worry about server maintenance. In this edition of dd:COLLECTIVE we'll not only talk about the nitty-gritty of app development but also explore strategies for leveraging the Facebook ad platform to grow user bases and take any app to the masses!

Nakul Patel, Partner Manager, <A HREF="http://www.parse.com/" REL="nofollow nofollow">Parse</A>
Nakul perfected his photocopying and binder-assembly skills during a two-year stint as a paralegal in New York. After that, he spent over five years at Google in a variety of roles including inside sales, vendor operations and sales management. During that time, he worked in Ann Arbor, Austin, Beijing and Tokyo; he only just recently moved to the Bay Area! Nakul graduated from Hamilton College with a B.S. in Mathematics, where he was a TA, member of the Student Assembly, and Co-Captain of the Varsity Squash team. In his spare time, he loves to play squash and try new cuisines.
Will Schenk Co-Founder, <A HREF="http://www.happyfuncorp.com/" REL="nofollow nofollow">HappyFunCorp</A>
With over 20 years of industry experience, Will Schenk has accumulated vast knowledge of web development and product engineering. At the age of 17, Mr. Schenk began his career in an academic environment in which he supported and developed technology systems for Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Schenk quickly realized that he could his use his gift for large scale systems architecture and apply it to the greater technology industry. Mr. Schenk relocated New York City where in his early twenties he found himself tasked with running some of the largest and most recognizable names in e-commerce. Mr. Schenk managed transactions valued in the hundreds of millions and brought brick and mortar stores J.Crew and Barneys online. Despite a successful tenure in big business technology, Mr. Schenk was drawn to what was then the infancy of New York City startup industry. With a few independent ventures under his belt, Mr. Schenk found himself at the helm of Workstreamer. Mr. Schenk's contributions in product engineering helped Workstreamer raise an attractive Series A round in 2007, a feat that ultimately led to the company's acquisition in 2008. Following the acquisition, Mr. Schenk went on to work at Skype where he helped re-architect and rebuild much of the e-commerce system. In 2009, Mr. Schenk co-founded HappyFunCorp, and subsequently, HFC Academy. HappyFunCorp focuses on the core tenets that guided Mr. Schenk's career: product engineering, product architecture and technology exploration. Mr. Schenk is responsible for helping to build one of the most well-respected and well-recognized development firms in New York City. His reputation as a technology thought leader has made HappyFunCorp go-to provider for both startups and Fortune 500 companies seeking technical guidance and support. Mr. Schenk currently lectures at HFC Academy and contributes to Seed, an open source solution for web standardization.
Al Harnisch, Strategist, <A HREF="http://www.prolificinteractive.com/" REL="nofollow nofollow">Prolific Interactive</A>
Al Harnisch leads Growth Strategy at Prolific Interactive, a mobile agency based in Brooklyn, NY and San Francisco, CA. He specializes in the creation and execution of mobile strategies for forward-thinking commerce brands and has spearheaded the creation of Prolific's growth team within the last year. Before making the move to Brooklyn, he cut his teeth as an early member of the User Experience & Strategy team at the automotive-focused digital marketing giant Dealer.com. Looking to break into the new technology startup scene, he turned to the mobile space and joined the energetic team at Prolific. He is a firm believer in using quantitative and qualitative UX research to drive product direction and adoption, and has extensive experience turning research into action within the product, marketing, and engineering arms of both startups and big brands alike.
