EVENT DETAILS
On Wednesday, Jan 10, 2024, the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) approved exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track the price of Bitcoin in a game-changer for the cryptocurrency industry which has been trying for more than a decade to launch such a product. What does this mean to IT leaders, especially if we don't work for Black Rock, Fidelity, or one of the other financial services firms that launched Bitcoin ETFs?

This milestone indicates an inflection point in the adoption of blockchain technologies upon which cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are based. These technologies can enable enterprises to improve their efficiency, security, transparency, & competitiveness in the digital economy. Cryptocurrencies are only the first of many applications of blockchain technologies that will become increasingly ubiquitous in the near future. Researchers, entrepreneurs, & investors have been developing the infrastructure that these applications will require. Innovative enterpises are already deploying blockchain applications in production.

What could possibly go wrong? In this interactive session, we will explore topics like:

What information can blockchain applications keep private & secure & what will be public, for the world to see?
What are smart contracts, how do they work, & what are their strengths/weaknesses?
What are oracles & how can they be manipulated?
We'll meet in the Vanderbilt Room @Company, 335 Madison Ave. Dinner, drinks, & plenty of opportunities for networking will be provided.
