STEVEN BALASTA

Steven joined Flatiron School as a student in 2017 after completing a Bachelor's degree in philosophy & working as a tutor & administrative assistant in New Jersey. After completing our immersive Software Engineering program, Steven discovered a passion for education & returned to campus as a Software Engineering Coach (then known as a Technical Coaching Fellow), supporting even more students through their career changes & tech journeys at Flatiron School. In early 2019, Steven officially became one of the Lead Instructors of Software Engineering for our full-time in-person immersive program in Manhattan, spending his days at Flatiron School giving lectures on Ruby, Ruby on Rails, React, & Javascript, & offering individualized support to students across countless cohorts. Steven has helped launch the careers of so many Flatiron students just like him, & is passionate about the value of community & connection in supporting a career transition, a new interest, or a journey back to school.

Alumni Projects Spotlight

Our grads will share their three projects they created after changing careers & going back to school for tech at Flatiron School. We will also see a joint Software Engineering/Data Science grad project, Garden Party, a hardware, software, & app/web creation designed to help you take care of the plants in your life by measuring moisture, temperature, & humidity in real time & setting data-triggered reminders.

7:40 PM

Q&A

Our grads will answer any questions you have about the experience of going back to school, their journey at Flatiron School, & any wisdom or advice they can offer if you're thinking about going back to school. There will be special time set aside for project-specific questions later!

8:00 PM

Closing Remarks & Networking

Our grads will be stationed at designated tables where they will be sharing their projects more in-depth, joined by dedicated tables with representatives from all three of Flatiron School's disciplines: Software Engineering, Data Science, & UX/UI Design. Top off your drink & feel empowered to approach any of our staff to talk more about changing careers, or chat with each other!

8:30 PM

See you next time!

We'll end at 8:30pm, but look forward to seeing you back at our next event on campus.
