Ryan Nece spent seven years as a professional football player, including winning a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After leaving the NFL, he co-founded StraightCast Media, a mobile platform for athletes, which was acquired by FOX Sports in 2014.
That exit led Ryan to found Next Play Capital in 2015, built on a deliberate mission: creating access to venture capital for non-traditional & diverse communities. His investments include Pure Storage, Peloton, Impossible Foods, Hims, & ByteDance. He's served on advisory boards for DocuSign & Tonal.
Today, as a leader at Next Legacy-formed through the combination of Next Play Capital & Legacy Venture-Ryan continues to expand who participates in venture capital, proving that different backgrounds can be a competitive advantage.
He's also Chairman of The Ryan Nece Foundation, empowering teens through the power of giving, & a member of the Aspen Institute's Henry Crown Fellow Program.
Ryan holds a B.A. in Economics & Political Science from UCLA. He enjoys cold showers, knows what makes a perfect blueberry muffin, & values time with his wife & son.
