We've all been kids & we've almost all had that feeling that other people are somehow more on top of their lives than we are. The hashtag #adulting is used to highlight behaving responsibly in a way we usually associate with people others might think of as perhaps more adult than we are.
"Adulting" is usually said in an equally humorous & serious way, in a combination of admiration & irony. We know there are practical aspects of our life that we should likely wish to get a handle on but we also aren't always sure if we are ready or want to give up our freedom if that means adding the constraints that responsibility seemingly implies.
Jim Clark & MiRA Megs Lathrop will together explore how to think about being responsible - about your career, dating & relationships, finances, lifestyle, & making a positive difference in a world full of need - without giving up on freedom. A new era demands new ways of thinking about adult responsibility as much as our troubled world requires that new era itself. Let's explore this territory together. It can, & will be, a lot of fun.
MiRA Megs Lathrop is a visionary celebrity interviewer, trend-setter, who has transformed thousands of lives. Since 2018, she has been interviewing noted figures - including Wyclef Jean, Phillip Phillips, Bryce Vince, James Clear, Jana Kramer - in cities across the nation as part of the Capital One Cafe speaker series, in her role as the co-creator of some of the leading innovations within Capital One Bank.
She has been a pioneer in the financial industry, primarily with Morgan Stanley, uncovering what people think is possible, & now works inside other corporations. MiRA earned her M.A. from California Institute of Integral Studies in East-West Psychology.
MiRA believes we can live in Heaven on Earth now, when we recognize our abundant birthright to BE the ones we have been waiting for. The life we want & deserve exists, now. An active Assemblage member who recently moved to NYC, she is delighted to help bring any & all new & positive ideas to the community.
Jim Clark is a serial social entrepreneur, consultant, & catalyst. Best known as Founder/CEO of the World Technology Network, an association of 1,500+ of the world's top sci-tech innovators. Appointed at age 22 to the faculty at Harvard, where he launched his first venture, Clark next served as Director for the Non-Profit Sector & National Service for Bill Clinton's first Presidential campaign, after which he started one of the first Internet consulting firms, whose main client was AOL.
Appointed in the 2016 presidential campaign to lead the Democratic Party's National Task Force for America's Future, he has worked on various pro-democracy initiatives, most notably as Chairman of Hamilton Electors.
He also co-curates a monthly dinner series, as well as this speaker series at The Assemblage. A single father of two college-age women & a performing poet, he likes to think he never gives up.
