News Literacy Game Jam @ NYPL
The News Literacy-themed Game Jam at the New York Public Library is freeevent open to all public middle & high school students in NYC. Students will learn about the topic of News Literacy from content experts at Common Sense Education & will then dive into the game design process, creating games that address the topic.
This event is the first of four game jams hosted by G4C as part of the Games for Change Student Challenge, a citywide competition that invites students to make games about civic issues.
G4C Student Challenge Game Jams:
Games for Change will host four game jams in NYC as part of the G4C Student Challenge program & competition during Spring 2018. Students are invited to come meet professional game designers & civic leaders, & learn aspects of game design. Each game jam will be hosted in a different NYC borough with activities facilitated by game designers, theme content experts & organizations leading the way in STEM, game design & social impact!
About the G4C Student Challenge:
The G4C Student Challenge is a digital game design competition that invites middle & high school students to create original games about four real-world themes: News Literacy, Wildlife Conservation, Kindness & Empathy & Connected Cities. The 2017-2018 program is running in NYC, Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, & Pittsburgh. Challenge winners win prizes such as paid internships & mentorships. An awards ceremony & exhibition of student games will be hosted in each city.
