Overview: The Investment Landscape & the Year Ahead
T'was the week before Christmas & our gift to you: an overview of where we stand in tech investing in the year that's about to run its course & what we might expect in the coming year, from two of our favorite industry veterans, including one who has sat on both sides of the table - many times.
About our guests:
Joe Milam is the Founder of AngelSpan, an Investor Relations Service for Startups, & the Legacy Fund's 'Venture Turnkey Asset Management Platform or V-TAMP, which is a division of AngelSpan. AngelSpan leverages Joe's almost 30-year career in financial services to address the last great inefficiency in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Joe is also an instructor at the University of Austin, where he teaches how we properly fund innovation in this country. Given his history, he does know a thing or two about how investors think - & how to read the room.
Glenn Argenbright has over 20 years' experience operating & running a variety of private, pre-IPO, & public technology companies. He has founded over a dozen startup ventures, resulting in three public offerings, nine exits, & billions in shareholder returns. His background includes expertise & projects in software, firmware, middleware, hardware, enterprise, SaaS, consumer goods, & Web & mobile applications. Quake Capital is an early-stage VC that oversees seven funds & 261 portfolio investments. We launched our first fund in 2017 in NYC, & we've since opened additional offices in Austin, Los Angeles & Europe. We strive to remove bias from our process, with a heavy focus on undervalued founders, markets, technologies, & geographies. A 2021 study utilizing published CrunchBase data, found that Quake was the #1 supporter of diverse founders & teams (BetaBoom study of 3,400 global funds & accelerators). In terms of performance, this approach has served us well, placing us in the top 2% of all early-stage investment vehicles worldwide for exits, generating 2X+ returns across all funds, a 42% Internal Rate of Return on our current fund, & an incredible 92% (5-year) survival rate of our startups.
Note to attendees: We always keep the group small so that everyone has an opportunity to participate.
