Immersive Case Study

The evening starts with a case study on Where Theres Smoke, a documentary/immersive theatre experience/escape room that became the first stand alone installation in the history of the Tribeca Film Festival. Join Lance Weiler (writer/director/experience designer) & Loren Hammonds (Senior Programmer Film & Immersive, Tribeca Film Festival) for a candid conversation about the challenges & opportunities of staging site-specific installations that attempt to balance story & interactivity - work where those formerly known as the audience become storytellers & part of the experience.

Open design/prototyping session

Immediately after join us for a special design/prototyping session focused on Conversational Mechanics. Lead by Nick Fortugno & Lance. The Year of Poe returns as we explore the works of Edgar Allan Poe. This is a unique opportunity to see the design process of The Raven an adaption that Ava Lee Scott, Lance & Nick are creating. The Raven will premiere at NYFF in the Convergence section before heading into an extended run later this fall. Collaborators include Columbia DSL, Actors Theater NYC, AIHS & Film at Lincoln Center.

The Year of Poe encourages storytellers, designers, game creators, makers & hackers to develop their own Poe adaptions. The open initiative from Columbia DSL encourages works and/or elements of those works to be released under a Creative Commons license in an effort to explore new forms & functions of storytelling.
