TRANSFER Download: AliveNET
@ Nguyen Wahed Gallery
January 16 - March 1 2026
TRANSFER & Nguyen Wahed Gallery present TRANSFER Download: AliveNET, an immersive exhibition exploring the fragile space of perception between human & machine vision.
Through experiments in a wide array of digital image-making technologies-from game engines, to film rendering software, to pixel editors, generative artworks, & subversive forms of artificial intelligence-the featured artists interrogate screen-mediation & algorithmic embodiment.
The exhibition is presented in TRANSFER's 3-channel interactive format at Nguyen Wahed in Lower Manhattan.
Participating Artists: Chia Amisola, Leo Castaeda, Carla Gannis, Huntrezz Janos & Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou, Fabiola Larios, Rosa Menkman, Lorna Mills, Eva Papamargariti, Yoshi Sodeoka
Against a backdrop of ubiquitous prompt-based AI, these works appropriate & reconfigure digital technologies to generate both critical friction & expanded possibility for what comes next. Drawing on speculative simulation, science-fiction storytelling, & experimental worldbuilding, TRANSFER Download: AliveNET engages contemporary anxieties-including dead internet theory's proposition that algorithmic activity has eclipsed human presence online-while asserting a more complex truth: our reality emerges from the entanglement of on-screen & off-screen experience, & artists remain essential architects of that convergence
TRANSFER Download is a traveling exhibition format that invites viewers to step inside virtual worlds. Each Download features a curatorial selection of artworks on a theme, exhibited within a three-channel interactive installation custom-designed for the exhibition. The immersive installation is controlled by a tablet display, allowing viewers to interact with the exhibition & choose their own adventure. TRANSFER Download was conceived in 2016 by Kelani Nichole & Harvey Moon, & has travelled to San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, Santa Fe, Miami, Basel, & Shanghai.
TRANSFER is pleased to collaborate with Nguyen Wahed to present this new iteration together, which reflects on the ubiquity of our screen-mediated realities.
