The Ford Foundation is a global, grant-making philanthropy that works to disrupt inequality in all its forms. We believe in the inherent dignity of all people. But around the world, too many people are excluded from the political, economic, & social institutions that shape their lives.
In addressing this reality, we are guided by a vision of social justice-a world in which all individuals, communities, & peoples work toward the protection & full expression of their human rights; are active participants in the decisions that affect them; share equitably in the knowledge, wealth, & resources of society; & are free to achieve their full potential.
Across eight decades, our mission has been to reduce poverty & injustice, strengthen democratic values, promote international cooperation, & advance human achievement.
The Random House imprint was founded in 1927 by Bennett Cerf & Donald Klopfer. The mission, as Cerf put it, was simple, humble, & beautifully open-ended: to publish a few books, on the side, at random. Random House would go on to publish more than a few books on the side. We have been a cherished home to Maya Angelou, Truman Capote, Eudora Welty, James Joyce, Pearl S. Buck, Salman Rushdie, Laura Hillenbrand, Edmund Morris, & many, many others. Today, Random House remains as dedicated as ever to a diverse & far-ranging list of fiction & nonfiction, one that is bound only by our commitment to the highest quality & the size of our authors' imaginations.
