Nicholas Mundell graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of New Zealand 2006, with a thesis focusing on Digital Fabrication & its application to modern construction methods. After a period spent backpacking Europe, he arrived in New York, taking positions in architectural restoration, furniture fabrication & eventually architectural model making, working with the like of Richard Serra, Daniel Liebskind, OMA & The Guggenheim Museum's Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward exhibition in 2009.
Nicholas then completed his graduate degree in 2011, (MEng) at the Hoboken NJ, Stevens Institute of Technology Product Architecture Lab', a forward-looking program that focused on digital AEC processes/ software & their practical applications. His first position post-graduation was as Construction Manager for the Stevens/Parsons New School Solar Decathlon Empowerhouse' entry for 2011. Nicholas then joined Thornton Tomasetti's recently formed Advanced Computation Modeling group in late 2012 (now known as COREstudio) joining a number of Steven's graduates lead by Jonatan Schumacher with a goal of bringing parametric & automation concepts to modern Structural Engineering practice. In his time at TT, Nicholas has worked on all manner of complex geometries & large scale BIM projects across Thornton Tomasetti's various practice sectors as well as creating & implementing learning materials for the firm as a whole.
